Making, drawing and painting are part of me. I cannot separate my work from life, or my life from the work, so when I am intrigued, influenced or dominated by an idea, it splashes into the work in whatever why I feel I need to express it. This can be a symbol, repeated image or painted mark as I can become totally immersed in the materials I use, and the act of painting can be the central urge in creating a piece as can the hypnotic spin and touch of throwing on a wheel, or the primeval basic squidge of clay between my fingers. My work is always painted, and can be majolica painted earthenware, experiments with majolica stoneware, modelled, thrown or thrown & modelled or 2d!
Alongside making, I often teach part time, and have taught at Universities, F.E colleges and through workshops and festivals, on BA Fine Art, Ceramics & graphics courses, and more general courses in ceramics, sculpture, drawing and painting and hand made books. I also work with school groups, creating large scale ceramic murals.
My studio in Abergele can be visited by prior appointment to view my work, and I am available for private tuition.
